EcoVadis: significantly shinier silver
“I’m delighted about this achievement and would like to thank everyone who helped us to significantly exceed the target set in the 2021 management objectives. Our sustainability commitment as part of Track 2030 is bearing fruit, is being recognized and appreciated,” commented Hans-Peter Hauck, Röhm’s Chief Operations Officer. “Financial markets, customers and suppliers are increasingly basing their purchasing and financial decisions on ratings like the EcoVadis label. Every improvement is an investment in our company’s future.”
EcoVadis evaluates companies’ environmental and social practices. Such ratings cover a wide range of non-financial management systems. The four categories evaluated are environment, employment and human rights, ethics, and sustainable procurement. “We’d already gotten off to a superb start in the environment category in 2020, and achieved strong growth in 2021,” remarked Peter Reinhard, Sustainability Project Manager at Röhm. “We’re above the chemicals industry average in all four categories. This is due, not least, to our excellent energy and environmental management practices.” He went on to add that Röhm now needs to take action in defining and implementing detailed targets and measures for reducing CO2 emissions. Visibility of the company’s commitment to employment rights, human rights and ethics needs to increase too.
Röhm needed to conduct a comprehensive assessment to be awarded the label. Numerous functional divisions had to answer questions about the impact that business and procurement activities had on the environment, labor and human rights, not to mention ethical components, and also provide appropriate documentation to demonstrate the same. The rating result is published on and always accessible to all customers on the EcoVadis website.
